Navigating Post-Grad Life

Welcome back to another Blog in Kayla’s Corner. I am so happy that you decided to come and join me as we dive into an exciting topic this week. We will discuss Post-Grad life and how to embrace this period of transition that can at first be incredibly intimidating. As you all know, I recently just graduated from The Ohio State University and I could not be more excited! But with that excitement comes a lot of fear for the future, at least in my case. It is important that during this time you get to know yourself on a deeper level so that you can blossom into the person that you were created to be. I want to share with you all some things that I have learned so far and tips on how to truly embrace everything that your new season has to offer.

Give yourself some Grace

It is easy to say “What’s next” as soon as you receive your diploma because there is so much pressure to have everything all figured out at all times. Some graduates have the next steps already planned while others have no clue what is in store for them. I want to remind you all that it is okay to not know your next steps right away.

Use this time to do the things that you were unable to do during your semester like visit your family, hang out with friends, catch a movie, or just rest. Allow yourself time to regroup and reflect on the journey that you worked so hard to complete. Really take in your accomplishments and allow yourself to have a break and prioritize pouring back into your cup this summer! Once you have done that, you will feel refreshed and motivated to get started on your next big goal.

Be open to New Things

This period of transition will allow you to be in a new setting with new opportunities. One of my weaker areas is adjusting to change, so this time out of school is pushing me to do things out of my comfort zone and to embrace that process. Look at it more from the perspective of having endless opportunities to scratch things off of your bucket list and to experience all that life has to offer.

You don’t want to miss out on all of the amazing things right in front of you because you are so worry about the future. Hold onto this time and allow yourself to have fun because you deserve it ! Maybe you have always wanted to start a fitness journey but didn’t have time, or you want to start a podcast/YouTube channel, or travel! This is the perfect time to find out what your interests are outside of your academics and to find hobbies that you truly enjoy.

Make a Plan but be open to Change

Creating a post grad plan can be intimidating but I have found it to be very useful. I find that writing them out helps to hold me accountable and if my plans change, I simply just make new ones. Use the first day of each month to set your goals and be sure to check in as the month progresses to see if you are accomplishing at least a few on your list.

Being open relieves the stress and anxiety of feeling like you constantly have to have everything figured out completely. Instead of resisting and trying so hard to stick to your plans, look at is as a possible greater opportunity when one door closes and another one opens.

Build Healthy Habits

One of the greatest things that I have learned while being in college is how to become discipled in multiple areas. For a long time, I struggled with my time management and it negatively impacted my productivity throughout the day, so I made the decision to change that in order to get more out of my day.

A period of transition is the perfect time to build a morning routine, learn to cook healthy meals at home, workout regularly, and increase your productivity. Use this time to figure out the best schedule for you! That way, these changes become habits that will be most beneficial as you continue to grow in your adulthood life.
Remember that your journey was created specifically for you and that you are capable of handling anything that comes with it. Fellow post-grads, I hope that you are taking good care of yourselves during this time and having tons of fun! Embrace the transition and you’ll be surprised at where life takes you!

Stay Blessed and Beautiful
